Overview
The issue of a shortage of space at the back of the room presents a challenge in physical retail design. My project aims to redefine the future of retail design by seamlessly integrating the back-of-retail area with the front, transforming retail spaces into dynamic theater spave, and storage areas into captivating displays. This approach reshapes the conventional perception of retail store layouts, enhances inventory visibility, and improves the flow of customers.

Site
630 9th Ave, New York, NY 10036
The location is situated in Hell’s Kitchen, mostly hosting people between the ages of young 20s to mid-30s and is characterized by its proximity to the theater district. This site is well-positioned to attract the age group I'm targeting, as it is a residential area that hosts a vibrant nightlife scene, numerous office spaces, and a variety of retail stores.
The building is an original film production facility, and I intend to adaptively reuse this element.

Room
The essence of "Comme" in "COMME DES GARÇONS" was amplified when the interior of the bathroom diverged from the exterior finish. The exterior is done with a rectangular shape in a gold finish, while the interior features rounded metallic elements.
The bathroom also offers a semi-private design to enhance the theatrical experience. People are allowed to catch glimpses of the silhouettes of figures engaged in those original private programs within a typical retail setting

Facades are designed with elements inspired by the Juliet balcony. These balconies open up to street views, providing users with a distinct sense of separation between the interior and the exterior.
